Caregiver Experience
For the past eight months, I have worked part-time as a Caregiver, providing support to elderly citizens and individuals living with disabilities. Initially, I inquired about this role on behalf of a friend, but the employer believed I was well-suited for the position—a decision I now see as a valuable opportunity for personal and professional growth.
- Personal Care Assistance: Helping clients with daily hygiene routines, including bathing, dressing, and grooming, while maintaining dignity and respect.
- Mobility Support: Assisting with transfers, walking exercises, and the use of mobility aids to promote independence.
- Meal Preparation & Nutrition: Planning and preparing balanced meals according to dietary needs, ensuring proper hydration, and assisting with feeding when necessary.
- Medication Management: Reminding clients to take prescribed medications
- Emotional & Social Support: Engaging in meaningful conversations, accompanying clients on outings, and reducing feelings of isolation.
- Household Tasks: Performing light housekeeping, laundry, and grocery shopping to maintain a safe and comfortable living environment.
- Health Monitoring: Observing and reporting changes in clients’ physical or mental condition to supervisors or healthcare professionals.
- Patience & Adaptability: Learning to navigate challenging behaviors with compassion while adapting care approaches to individual preferences.
Personal Growth
This role has significantly improved my Finnish language skills through daily interactions and deepened my understanding of the physical and emotional demands of caregiving. It has reinforced my patience, empathy, and commitment to improving the quality of life for others, a perspective I will carry forward in my career.
